The Georgian government is not holding any negotiations with Russia regarding the restoration of the railway passing through the territory of Abkhazia, said Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili in a comment to journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to him, there is one simple condition for the restoration of relations between Georgia and Russia, which is the restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity.

Yesterday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated that Russia is considering the possibility of restoring railway connections with Georgia via Abkhazia.

Recall that the railway between Russia and Georgia through Abkhazia existed during the Soviet era. The road connected the cities of Sochi and Tbilisi via Sukhumi and Poti. After the war in Abkhazia in the early 1990s, passenger and cargo transportation by rail was suspended. Currently, the railway line is in a semi-disturbing state.
