Leo Varadkar has said whoever becomes the next prime minister will get "a fair hearing from the European Union", APA reports citing BBC.
But the taoiseach said there will be no changes to the Brexit withdrawal agreement.
Speaking in Brussels ahead of a meeting of European leaders to decide who should run Europe's main institutions, Mr Varadkar said it was important that "everyone in the UK understands that we mean what we say".
He added: "The withdrawal agreement and the backstop can’t be reopened, but we will be open to changes to the political declaration.”
