German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany is in talks with its partners to increase supplies for Ukraine's air defense system, APA reports.
He noted that consultations on further assistance to Ukraine are underway in preparation for the next European Council meeting, which will take place on October 15 and 16 in Brussels. "We are also discussing very specific support for the Ukrainian budget," Merz said at a joint press conference with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Berlin. He added that improving Ukraine's air defense system is also among the topics of discussion.
"In personal conversations with a number of heads of state and government around the world, I am also striving to facilitate the organization of appropriate supplies for Ukraine's air defense system. This is currently the weakest point," the German Chancellor asserted, noting that the coming winter could prove "very difficult" for Ukraine.
Merz noted that the situation surrounding Ukraine was one of the topics of discussion during his meeting with Tokayev. During the talks, according to the German prime minister, he outlined his country's position on this issue and pledged continued support for Kyiv.
