Türkiye is implementing a multi-stage plan to strengthen its Air Force through the acquisition of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, APA reports, citing the newspaper Milliyet.
In addition to purchasing new aircraft, Türkiye will also acquire used jets to help speed up the process.
Under an agreement signed with the United Kingdom, Türkiye will receive 20 new Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets after 2030. At the same time, in line with agreements reached with Qatar and Oman, 24 second-hand fighter jets will be delivered to Türkiye earlier and enter service.
These aircraft will be used by the Turkish Air Force until the production of the new jets is completed and until the domestically produced KAAN combat aircraft becomes operational.
Although the expected number of fighter jets to be procured currently stands at at least 44, the figure could rise to 56 if additional negotiations yield positive results.
