French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire stated on Tuesday that "an embargo on Russian oil is in the works," emphasizing it is necessary to halt oil imports from Moscow to cut funds used for financing the military operation in Ukraine, APA reports citing Teletrader.
"We always have said with President Macron that we want an embargo on Russian oil," added the minister, saying it is crucial to convince other European countries which are heavily dependent on Russian supplies to impose the sanctions.
Previously, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock argued it is difficult to completely ban all energy imports from Russia and stated the decision on the matter must be discussed to reach a joint solution.
