"It has been our consistent policy to become a full member of NATO and to benefit from the security guarantees provided by the NATO Charter," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said after the trilateral meeting, APA reports.
"Nevertheless, we understand that this will not happen in the blink of an eye, even in the near future. We also see NATO's reaction to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. NATO is not ready to act collectively to end the war and protect civilians in Ukraine from Russian airstrikes. The Alliance has entrusted this issue to member states to act on a bilateral basis, which bears the question of how Ukraine's security will be ensured from now until its accession to NATO.
If we can agree that a similar system of guarantees under the North Atlantic Charter is given to Ukraine by the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia, a great friend and neighbor, Turkey, and all our neighbors, then this is something we are ready to discuss. . The war is going on now, and we need to think creatively about how to solve this problem and ensure our security. For now, our army provides our security. The Ukrainian people are sacrificing themselves. Our partners, including Turkey, support us. But we need a systematic, sustainable solution, "Kuleba said.
