Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Swiss President Ignazio Cassis agreed on Monday to keep "strong" sanctions against Moscow in order to pressure Russia into halting the military operation in Ukraine, APA reports citing Teletrader.

During the summit, the two agreed that Russia should be held responsible for the Ukrainian crisis, while Kishida noted that the conflict "shakes the foundation of order not only in Europe but also in the international community including Asia." Cassis expressed that Switzerland will provide more assistance to Ukraine, adding that Bern will maintain bans on Russia, following the example of the European Union, the United States, and Japan.

The two parties also discussed the matter of North Korea and have agreed to respond to the situation together. The Swiss President is expected to attend meetings with other Japanese ministers, as well as a business event during his visit.
