Chairman of the High Electoral Board of Turkey Sadi Guven has made a statement on the voting results at the municipal elections held on June 23 in Istanbul, APA reports.
Saying there were 8 925 063 voters in Istanbul noted that 84.5% of voters took part in the elections yesterday. According to him, 8 746 464 of the ballot papers were valid and 178 599 were invalid.
Ekrem Imamoglu of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) secured 54.21% of votes.
Bina Yıldırım secured 3,935,453 votes, which is 44.99% of the total number of voters.
S. Guven added that up to now, 19,910 ballot boxes have been counted: "After the deadline for the election results, the mayor will be presented to the person deserving the mandate".
