At a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an mpox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), the Turkish Health Ministry has announced that no mpox cases have been detected in Türkiye in 2024, APA reports citing Turkish media.
The ministry said on X on Thursday that mpox, which is primarily seen in the African continent, has not been detected in Türkiye so far in 2024, adding that there is no need for any restrictions or additional measures against the spread of the virus.
The ministry said it is closely following the developments regarding the outbreak.
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, who spoke to reporters on Wednesday, also said the ministry is closely following the developments related to the mpox virus and COVID-19, adding that there is no need for alarm at the moment.
