Cutting off ties with the US completely is an ill-conceived idea, said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in his speech at the Munich Security Conference, APA reports.

"Some people are demanding that Europe cut off its partnership with the US. I understand the concerns and worries about this issue. I even share some of the concerns. However, the claims about cutting ties are ill-conceived ideas. These ideas do not take into account the geopolitical situation in Europe," Merz said.

Speaking about China's global influence, the German Chancellor noted that China is trying to reshape the geopolitical order in the world through strategic patience and that this country can be on the same level as the US in the military field.

"China systematically uses the dependencies of others to design the international system in its favor," Merz emphasized.
