USAID and other donor organizations' misguided direction has been halted, this shows that we are focused on the correct issues, said Georgia's Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili in a statement to journalists, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
"For some time, we have been pointing out that something was going in the wrong direction regarding the financing of various projects, which were said to be directed towards the country's development by foreign countries and donors. The misguided direction followed by USAID and other donor organizations has now been halted at this stage, and there are very specific reasons for this. These reasons show that we are focused on very correct issues. We have taken the right steps to prevent donors who seek instability in Georgia from achieving their goals. We started emphasizing these issues very early on, which the U.S. president is now speaking out about loudly. We also were openly speaking about and pointing out that organizations funded by donors are directly linked to political parties operating in Georgia, and that these funds are directly related to their activities in Georgia's politics. This could be considered as direct interference in elections and influencing the election process. Georgia is a good example of how various methods were used to directly or indirectly influence and intervene in the election process," Bochorishvili said.
