Eleven employees of Georgia’s Border Police and Coast Guard services have participated in NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian in Türkiye, APA’s local bureau reports, citing Georgia’s Border Police.

The training, held from January 21 to February 9, was also attended by members of the Turkish Naval Forces’ (TNF) Special Operations Forces. The trainees were stationed aboard the Turkish Navy frigate TCG Gaziante (F-490).

NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian is currently the Alliance’s only permanent maritime security operation operating under NATO auspices. Its main tasks include combating terrorism in the maritime domain, promoting free and safe navigation, and developing and strengthening capacity in the field of maritime security.

Note that, under a technical agreement signed between Tbilisi and Ankara on November 21 of last year, Georgia obtained the right to participate in NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian.
