A complete ban on the sale of beverages, including water, in plastic containers is being planned in Georgia, said Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of the country, APA’s local bureau reports.
He noted that the ban is expected to be implemented starting next year.
“We believe that beverages in plastic containers should not be sold in any store. The ban will most likely come into force from February next year. This is, of course, an initiative; the government has not yet made a decision. In order to prevent businesses from suffering losses, the ban will be implemented gradually,” Pavliashvili added.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the ban will not apply to oils in plastic containers or to the sale of water in containers larger than 10 liters.
Note that since January 1 of this year, the production (except for production intended for export), import, and sale of plastic tableware intended for food products have been banned in Georgia.
