"Innovation continues with advances in artificial intelligence, quantum computing and clean energy which transforms the way we live and work," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in her speech at the Davos Economic Forum, APA's correspondent dispatched to Davos reports.

Ursula von der Leyen, who drew attention to the issues related to Russia and the shock of the pandemic, said that even the undersea data cables have become a target: “The cooperative world order from the Baltic Sea to the Taiwan Strait that we envisioned 25 years ago has not become a reality. Instead, we have entered a new era of fierce geostrategic competition. The world’s major economies are competing for raw materials, new technologies, and access to global trade routes. From artificial intelligence to clean technology, from quantum to space, from the Arctic to the South China Sea, the race continues. As this competition intensifies, we are likely to continue to see the frequent use of economic instruments such as sanctions, export controls, and tariffs, designed to protect economic and national security. But it is important to balance the imperative of protecting our security with our ability to innovate and increase our prosperity. Because it is in no one’s interest to break the bonds of the global economy.”
