“We very much want to resume cooperation with the Georgian authorities, but for this to happen, they must take certain steps,” EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to her, instead of moving forward, the Georgian authorities are taking steps backward by adopting numerous laws.

“We will not cooperate with the Georgian authorities unless they move toward European values,” the EU official added.

Marta Kos noted that despite the lack of cooperation with the Georgian authorities, the EU is interacting with civil society and supporting the Georgian people.

It should be noted that a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council will be held in Luxembourg today. The situation in Georgia is also on the agenda of the meeting.

It should be recalled that on November 28, 2024, the Georgian government announced that it would not put negotiations on EU membership on the agenda until the end of 2028. Since that decision, tensions have prevailed in Tbilisi-Brussels relations. The Georgian authorities accuse the European bureaucracy of halting the European integration process.
