Japan and the European Union are against Washington's proposal for the Group of Seven countries to completely ban exports to Russia, according to documents cited by the Financial Times on Monday, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Sources familiar with the negotiations said a total export ban "is simply not doable" as the G7 leaders prepared to issue a joint statement following the three-day summit in Hiroshima scheduled to start on May 19.
If adopted, the sanctions package would introduce an export ban on all products excluding some agricultural, medical, and other vital products. Explaining the initiative, the United States claimed this would prevent Russia from circumventing existing sanctions and continue importing Western technology.
