On February 24, the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia, Marge Mardisalu-Kahar, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia over a social media statement concerning one of Georgia’s universities, the ministry said, APA reports, citing Georgian Public Broadcaster.

According to the statement, during a meeting with First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili, the Estonian Ambassador was asked to clarify the purpose of her action.

“The First Deputy Minister emphasized that such a statement by the Estonian Ambassador aims to politicize the ongoing education reform, which is unacceptable and constitutes interference in the country’s internal affairs.

“If the Estonian side is interested in the education reform process in Georgia, it has the opportunity to hold consultations with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, where comprehensive information on the matter can be provided,” the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.

The Estonian Ambassador had posted a photo on social media with Nino Doborjginidze, Rector of Ilia State University, captioned: “We stand by Ilia University.”
