Contract killing was prevented in Georgia, said Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze at a briefing, APA's local bureau reports.
A detainee born in 2007 was allegedly instructed by criminal authority Elmuraz Mammadov to kill a resident of Qabal village in the Lagodekhi district.
The targeted person reportedly refused to pay USD 200,000 that Mammadov had demanded under threat.
During the search, a Makarov pistol was seized from the detainee, who has confessed to the crime.
Investigations are ongoing into several criminal cases involving Elmuraz Mammadov, who has been charged in absentia in recent months. He is wanted by Interpol under a “red notice” and is believed to be hiding abroad. Georgian law enforcement agencies are conducting intensive operations to locate and arrest him.
