In its morning intelligence update, the Ministry of Defence said reports have suggested Russia may seek to stage a "referendum" in the captured Ukrainian town of Kherson in an attempt to legitimise the area as a "breakaway republic" - similar to Donbas and Crimea, according to the information of the Ministry of Defense of the Great Britain, APA reports.
Noted that Russia has reportedly installed its own mayor in Melitopol following the alleged abduction of his predecessor on Friday 11 March. Subsequently, the Mayor of Dniprorudne has also reportedly been abducted by Russian forces.
It also said Russian forces reportedly fired warning shots at peaceful protesters in Kherson on Monday.
