A 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook the waters off the coast of Japan's northernmost region of Hokkaido on Friday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre announced, APA reports citing Teletrader.
The quake was registered at a depth of 300 kilometers, and was located about 100 kilometers southeast of the Russian towns of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Korsakov.
The region frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, with two 5+ magnitude quakes recorded over the past weekend. There were no initial reports of injuries or infrastructure damage.
