Most countries of the European Union (EU) have supported the suspension of the visa-free regime for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports, said Ricard Jozwiak, editor of the European bureau of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, in a post on his X account, APA’s local bureau reports.
The decision was adopted with 25 votes in favor and 2 against. The countries that voted against the decision were Hungary and Slovakia.
Under the decision, which will enter into force in early March, Georgian diplomats will lose the right to visa-free travel to EU countries.
Recall that the visa-free travel regime between Georgia and the EU has been in effect since March 2017. More than 10 EU countries abolished the visa-free regime for holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports last year.
