Since the start of commercial operations of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the number of gas shippers using the infrastructure has increased from 3 to 47, said Luca Schieppati, Managing Director of TAP AG, during the 12th Ministerial Meeting as part of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting as part of the Green Energy Advisory Council held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, TAP marked the fifth anniversary of its commercial operations last year and has demonstrated sustainable performance both technically and operationally over this period. The project has strengthened its position as a stable and reliable transmission system while maintaining high safety standards.
Luca Schieppati noted that as a result of expansion works carried out at the compressor station in Greece, the pipeline’s transmission capacity was increased by 1.2 billion cubic meters per year at the first stage. This expansion was implemented in line with market demand.
TAP management stated that since 2022, amid the geopolitical environment and rising demand, additional volumes beyond the nominal project capacity have been delivered to the market by utilizing the pipeline’s operational flexibility.
The company representative emphasized that the 2025 market test is currently ongoing, and any further increase in transmission capacity will be implemented solely based on market interest.
“TAP is also assessing the possibilities for transporting low-carbon gases. The company is examining the technical feasibility of transporting hydrogen and other low-emission gases and is developing a decarbonization roadmap,” Luca Schieppati added.
It was noted that TAP’s achievements have been made possible thanks to close cooperation with the governments of Greece, Albania, and Italy, European institutions, regulatory authorities, transmission system operators, and upstream partners.
TAP management stated that the principles of reliability, flexibility, and readiness for the energy transition will continue in parallel with strategic partnerships, and the project will continue to contribute to Europe’s energy security.
