"The main secret of the new full-scale development project of the Absheron gas-condensate field is innovation. Advanced technologies will be applied in the second phase, as in the first phase of the project," Emmanuel de Guillebon, the country head of TotalEnergies in Azerbaijan, said during his speech at the "Baku Energy Forum," APA-Economics reports.
He stated that in the second phase of the project, 3-4 new wells and a new 140-kilometer multiphase pipeline will be extended to the gas processing plant to be built in Sangachal. Gas and condensate will be transported mixed through this pipeline. Although the costs of the project are halved by using these partially insulated pipes, the risk of hydrate and paraffin deposition increases. Therefore, two main innovations are planned within the framework of the project: “One of them is special chemical technologies that prevent the formation of hydrates. This technology, which has been worked on for years at an energy research center in France, will ensure the continuity of gas flow. The second is an automated subsea pigging system. Through this new device, it will be possible to send automatic mechanical cleaning tools from underwater without the need for a marine operation to clean the pipes. This technology has been tested in Brazil and will be applied for the first time on an industrial scale within the framework of the Absheron project.”
He emphasized that the gas plant to be built in Sangachal will be equipped with the latest technologies. These include complete elimination of flaring (zero-flaring) and permanent methane monitoring systems based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
He added that these technologies will not only expand the capabilities of the Absheron field but also technologically advance Azerbaijan's energy sector even further.
