The 55th meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the use of water and energy resources of the Araz River was held in Iran on June 8–11, the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency told APA-Economics.
The meeting was co-chaired by Zakir Guliyev, Chairman of the Board of the Regional Water Reclamation Service under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, and Fariba Avarideh, Head of the General Directorate for Border Rivers of Iran’s Ministry of Energy.
Representatives of the Regional Water Reclamation Service, the State Service for Control over Water Use and Protection under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, and Azerenerji OJSC participated in the event.
Within the framework of the meeting, operational regimes related to the distribution of the Araz River’s water resources between the two countries were developed and approved. In addition, the parties discussed monitoring of water intake from the river, control of water quality, installation of new modern water-measuring devices on the river, and other issues of mutual cooperation.
Following the discussions, the parties signed a final protocol covering the work to be carried out.
