Novruz holiday may be granted nationwide status in Russia

A proposal has been made to grant Novruz nationwide status in Russia, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

According to Russian media, a request has been submitted to the President of the Russian Federation to grant Novruz the status of a nationwide holiday.

It was noted that ahead of Russia Day, the Polylog Foundation for the Development of Interethnic Relations appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to grant Novruz national holiday status.

The foundation's appeal to the Russian head of state states that the initiative is linked to the Year of the Peoples of Russia and is in line with the state policy agenda on preserving the cultural and linguistic diversity of the country's peoples.
