SOCAR invested more than $2 billion in Georgia so far-UPDATED

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov is on a working visit to Tbilisi within the framework of the ministerial meeting on the “Green Energy Cable” project hosted by Georgia, APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Shahbazov, together with the delegation he leads, met with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili. The sides discussed the priority areas of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as important issues related to the implementation of the project on constructing the energy cable that will connect the South Caucasus energy system to the European energy system.

The ministers once again emphasized the strategic importance of the project, which will contribute to the development of the renewable energy sector and expand transit and bilateral trade opportunities between the European Union and the South Caucasus region.

It was noted that the two friendly countries are actively continuing their partnership to achieve common goals such as energy security, regional integration, and sustainable development.

During the conversation, issues related to the development of energy infrastructure and hydropower resources in both countries, as well as further strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector, were also reviewed. It was emphasized that Georgia’s energy potential allows for the expansion of cooperation in hydropower projects, as well as in solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources. It was noted that the Georgian government is implementing important programs and has created an attractive environment for investors in the energy sector.

SOCAR's investments in Georgia has reached 2.1 billion USD,  Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said on his X account, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, during January-September, 1.5 bcm of natural gas were supplied to the country, and electricity exports amounted to 372 million kWh.

"We discussed the priorities of our strategic energy partnership and the development of new projects on a mutually beneficial basis with Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, in Tbilisi. SOCAR's investments in Georgia has reached 2.1 billion USD. During January-September, 1.5 bcm of natural gas were supplied to the country, and electricity exports amounted to 372 million kWh," the post reads.
