The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) has become a key element of Europe’s energy security, and Azerbaijan has the potential to further increase gas supplies in the coming years, said Vitali Baylarbayov, Deputy Vice President of SOCAR, during the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
“The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the most important energy infrastructure projects of the 21st century. The project was implemented on the basis of strong political will, coordination among partners, and a shared strategic vision,” Baylarbayov noted.
According to him, as of February 1, 2026, a total of approximately 91.4 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported via the SGC, more than 55 billion cubic meters of which were delivered to European countries.
Baylarbayov stated that in 2025, about 7 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to European consumers, representing an increase of approximately 60% compared to 2021. Currently, Azerbaijani gas is supplied to 16 countries, including 10 European Union member states.
He added that the Shah Deniz field is the main source of the SGC. Since the start of production until February 2026, 267 billion cubic meters of gas and 52.7 million tons of condensate have been produced from the field. Last year alone, 27.4 billion cubic meters of gas and 3.8 million tons of condensate were extracted.
