The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is always open to new members joining the organization, provided they meet all the necessary criteria and goals, said OPEC Secretary General Haitham al-Qais, APA-Economics report citing TASS.
"We are always open to accepting new members into OPEC if they meet the organization's criteria. Obviously, these countries should have similar goals to other OPEC members. They should also be significant exporters," he noted.
The OPEC Secretary General emphasized that the organization is negotiating with many countries on this matter: "I have held meetings with a number of African countries, for example, Senegal. Namibia has potential in the future. But I cannot make an official statement regarding the accession of new members."
