Anglo Asian Mining Plc. (AAM), a British company engaged in gold, silver, and copper mining in Azerbaijan has started preparations for the start of production at the Demirli deposit in Karabakh, APA-Economics reports, citing the mining company.
This is the second new mine commissioned by the company this year, supporting its strategy to become a diversified and medium-sized copper producer.
According to the company’s forecast, 4,000 tons of copper concentrate will be produced at Demirli in 2025, and from 2026, this figure will increase to 15,000 tons per year.
According to the source, Demirli is a large open-pit mine, and ore is transported to a flotation plant. An environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the project has been completed, and technical designs for a new tailings facility have been prepared.
Up to 150 new employees have been hired in the mining and processing sector, and an additional 50 people have been transferred from other mines. Anglo Asian also plans to explore new copper reserves in the nearby area.
The company's CEO, Rza Vezirov, said that the start of production in Demirli in such a short time is a great success and that this mine will contribute to the restoration of the Karabakh economic region.
Note that Anglo Asian Mining is engaged in the extraction of gold, copper, and silver in Azerbaijan and aims to achieve an annual production of 50-55 thousand tons of copper by 2030. As part of this strategy, the company also put the Gilar mine into operation in May 2025.
