The laying of an optical cable to be laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, Kazakh media reported, citing Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev, APA reports.
“In order to increase transit potential, construction of an optical cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the Republic of Azerbaijan has begun. The project is planned to be completed in the third quarter of the current year,” Madiyev said.
According to the information, marine geological and engineering survey work in the Caspian Sea began in August 2025. The total length of the cable to be laid will be 391 kilometers. The maximum transmission capacity of the line to be created within the project will be 400 terabits per second. This infrastructure will play an important role in strengthening digital connectivity along the Middle Corridor.
