Kazakhstan plans to expand electricity trade with neighboring countries, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov said during the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, Kazakhstan considers the development of energy storage systems one of its priority areas in order to ensure the sustainable integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system.

The minister noted that the country is working on modernizing energy infrastructure, increasing the transmission capacity of electricity grids, introducing smart management systems, and developing energy interconnectors.

“This will allow us not only to increase domestic capabilities but also to discuss electricity trade with neighboring countries in the future,” E. Akkenzhenov emphasized.

According to him, Kazakhstan positively assesses the APREC initiative of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and considers it an important platform for deepening regional cooperation.

The minister added that the country supports the development of cooperation in the energy transition based on a phased and pragmatic approach aligned with national priorities and strategic objectives.
