"We are working together to deliver gas to more customers while reducing methane emissions," said Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, as he addressed the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, APA-Economics reports.
"Following Azerbaijan's achievements at COP29 last year, we want to take advantage of this opportunity and accelerate the energy transition. This means tripling renewable energy sources and doubling energy efficiency gains by 2030. At the same time, it means implementing energy networks, energy storage packages, and global methane agreements. I would like to thank Azerbaijan for the successful work initiated over the past year regarding methane emissions by taking advantage of this opportunity. Its leadership on this issue is inspiring," noted Dan Jørgensen.
He emphasized that both regional partners and European Union businesses and investors are showing clear interest in developing Azerbaijan's renewable energy sector. This creates significant opportunities for regional market integration, institutional structures, and industrial value chain teams.
"In this context, today, during the plenary session we discussed with relevant ministers the development of a green energy corridor in the region. Particularly, the discussions I held this morning with representatives of the European Union's wind energy industry and Azerbaijan's Renewable Energy Agency were of great interest to me. Because Azerbaijan is working to develop the vast wind energy potential of the Caspian Sea," added the EU Commissioner for Energy.
