In Azerbaijan, the "National Strategy on Efficient Use of Water Resources" will be implemented in three stages, covering the years 2024–2040, the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan told APA-Economics within the framework of Baku Water Week.
According to the information, in the first stage covering 2024–2027, the necessary infrastructure and management on the efficient use of water resources will be improved. Within this framework, integrated management and increase of water resources, utilization of water resources in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions, management of wastewater and rainwater, improvement of water quality, expansion of economic facilities, and reduction of water losses will be ensured.
In the second phase covering 2028–2030, Azerbaijan’s water management priorities will focus on “clean water and sanitation,” “climate change mitigation,” “marine ecosystem protection,” and “land ecosystem management,” in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN General Assembly.
The third phase, spanning 2031–2040, will emphasize efficient management based on innovative technologies, increasing water resources, and meeting the population’s and economy’s demand for high-quality water through the use of alternative sources.
