The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has included Azerbaijan in a regional project on smart energy and grid integration, APA-Economics reports.
ADB has added Azerbaijan to the list of beneficiary countries under the second phase of a regional project aimed at accelerating the development of smart energy systems and grid integration infrastructure. The project, which is being implemented by the ADB and is currently active, seeks to increase investment in smart energy systems to support the integration of renewable energy sources into electricity grids. It also promotes the application of innovative and advanced technologies, as well as digital solutions.
ADB project information indicates that the second phase of the regional initiative currently covers Azerbaijan and Thailand. At the same time, the project is expected to be expanded depending on the needs of developing member countries.
Discussions are also underway regarding the inclusion of other countries. These include electric mobility and charging infrastructure in Kazakhstan, data centers in Kyrgyzstan, and sustainable energy supply for data centers in Thailand.
The project is being implemented through a sovereign financing mechanism in the energy sector and, in addition to strengthening the integration of renewable energy into the grid, aims to support the digitalization of electricity systems. At present, no technical documents related to the project have been made publicly available.
