Azerbaijan tightens penalties for influence on election campaigns and disruption of elections

Azerbaijani Parliament told APA that the amendments to articles 159.1 and 160.1 of the Criminal Code will be discussed.



According to the proposed amendment to article 159.1, candidates, political parties, blocs of political parties will face AZN 200 up to 600 fines or 400-480 hour community services or up to one year imprisonment in case of influence on election (referendum) campaigns and disruption of elections.

 

According to the amendment to article 160.1, the penalty for interfering or influencing the work of election (referendum) commissions or abuse of duties by a member of election commission will be AZN 200 up to 600 or 400-480 hour community services or up to one year imprisonment.

The draft will be discussed at Azerbaijani Parliament on April 30.

The valid provisions of both articles envisage 150-240 hour community services.
