Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev attends solemn ceremony on 90th anniversary of academician Zarifa Aliyeva - UPDATED - PHOTOSESSION

APA reports that President Ilham Aliyev attended the solemn ceremony at the State Music Theater.

President addressed the event. He said that various events were held to mark the 90th anniversary of Zarifa Aliyeva on the highest level.
"Zarifa Aliyeva was a great doctor,” said President Ilham Aliyev.

President spoke about the valuable contributions she made to the ophthalmology of Azerbaijan and the world. President spoke about the activity of the laboratory opened by Zarifa Aliyeva for studying the spheres of production having negative impact on vision. He noted that great scientist Zarifa Aliyeva's works are still of great importance, the activity of Zarifa Aliyeva, who was awarded Averbakh Prize, the highest prize in ophthalmology in the USSR, was first of all based on the human factor.

Azerbaijan said that Zarifa Aliyeva, the spouse of Heydar Aliyev, always supported the great politician. For many Zarifa Aliyeva was the last hope. President Ilham Aliyev underlined that Zarifa Aliyeva, whose goal was to help people, will be always remembered, because she was a real intellectual, she had all the positive features characteristic of an Azerbaijani woman. “I am happy that Zarifa Aliyeva was my mother," said the Head of State.

President spoke about the activities carried out recently to improve health system in Azerbaijan. He said that more than 500 medical facilities were constructed or reconstructed in the past 10 years. All conditions have been created in Baku and regions for offering necessary medical service. The fund allocated for health has increased by 11 times.

"Human factor - Azerbaijani citizen is in the center of our policy," said President Ilham Aliyev and added that medical service should be perfect for the young generation to be healthy, measures should be taken to increase human resources.

The Head of State said infant mortality has reduced in Azerbaijan, achievements are highly appreciated by international organizations.

Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev said Zarifa Aliyeva is remembered with great respect. He noted that Zarifa Aliyeva's works are still of great importance.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, doctor of medical sciences, professor, Rector of Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education Studies Larisa Moshetova spoke about the unforgettable features of Zarifa Aliyeva as a person and scientist.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, doctor of medical sciences, professor, head of department of Postgraduate Medical Education Alevtina Brovkina called Zarifa Aliyeva herald of creative wishes.

Chairman of Turkish Ophthalmology Society Sunay Duman underlined that Zarifa Aliyeva's merits in the prevention of trachoma are still respectfully remembered by the scientific community.

A concert was held with the participation of Azerbaijani art figures.

Following this, President Ilham Aliyev viewed the photo exhibition featuring the life and activity of academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
