Baku. Mubariz Aslanov - APA. “No considerable amendments are expected in the legislation due to the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. There is no need for it,” chairman of Azerbaijani parliament’s committee on legal policy and state-building Ali Huseynli told APA while commenting on European Parliament president Martin Schulz’s statement that Azerbaijan’s election legislation needs amendments.

Ali Huseynli said the election legislation in Azerbaijan is perfect, it has already been practiced in several elections. He said amendments are sometimes made to the Election Code regarding some technical issues.

“But no amendments are expected in the essence of the election legislation, formation of the election commissions. There is no need for it,” he said.

Chairman of the committee regrets that Election Code is targeted, even amendments are demanded every time on the eve of the elections in Azerbaijan.

“In response to all this, I say with full responsibility that these expectations are vain. We have modern election legislation and took into consideration the recommendations of all international organizations during the development of Election Code. Various international organizations, including OSCE witnessed that it was impossible to take into consideration a number of recommendations. We held many discussions about it. Therefore, one must know once and for all that there is no need for amendments to Azerbaijan’s election legislation at present or in the future.”

Huseynli also said the Central Election Commission has already been formed fully as administrate organization in charge of election and is ready to hold the next elections.

President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said Azerbaijan must make amendments to the election legislation. Schulz said to meet all criteria in this year’s presidential elections was a principal matter and the reforms must be carried out in the voting right, freedom of assembly and freedom of mass media in Azerbaijan.
