Ali Ahmedov comments on reports on increase of Azerbaijani presidentâ€™s term up to 7 years

It is in accordance with the world experience,” Deputy Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ali Ahmedov said commenting on the proposal to increase Azerbaijani president’s term up to 7 years, APA reports.

Ahmedov said that raising such an issue during the upcoming presidential election campaign is out of reality: “At present the question is about holding presidential elections. Pro-opposition media outlets have disseminated this misinformation, but it will not change public opinion, just like their previous misinformation.”

Ahmedov said that misinformation is often reported by opposition-controlled media outlets: “According to the Constitution, Azerbaijani President's term of office is set at 5 years, any change is possible only in case of amendment to the Constitution. The Constitution may be amended only through referendum. Currently, there is no such a program. Our Party is engaged in holding the upcoming presidential elections in the atmosphere of high voting activity.”
