"Today, our country needs an amnesty act," said Siyavush Novruzov, chairman of the Committee for Regional Affairs of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), at the first meeting of the spring session of the Parliament, APA reports.
The MP said that starting from the National Leader, 13 amnesty acts and more than 70 pardon orders have been adopted in Azerbaijan: "The largest Amnesty Act was introduced at the initiative of our First Vice President when he was still a MP, and as a result, 5,000 people were freed. Parliament can again take the initiative and draft such an Amnesty Act by Independence Day. There are pardon orders, but the scope of the Amnesty Act is broader. In particular, there are people who fought for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, who later made mistakes and are now in prison. The adoption of this amnesty act would also make them happy."
