One year has passed since the Victory Parade dedicated to the Victory in the Patriotic War of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

On September 27, 2020, in response to the next military aggression of Armenia, the people of Azerbaijan launched the Patriotic War under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev to liberate the occupied territories.

As a result of 44 days of military operations, the Victorious Azerbaijani Army liberated Sugovushan settlement of Tartar region on October 3, 2020, Jabrayil city on October 4, Hadrut settlement of Khojavend region on October 9, Fuzuli city on October 17, Zangilan on October 20, the city of Gubadli on October 25 and Shusha on November 8, and liberated more than 300 settlements, as well as important strategic heights in the direction of Aghdara, Murovdagh, and Zangilan.

With the liberation of Shusha from occupation on November 8, Armenia was forced to accept defeat and sign a capitulation. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a statement on November 10. According to the statement, firing and all military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone were suspended on November 10, 2020, at 00.00 Moscow time.

A peacekeeping contingent of 1,960 Russian servicemen, 90 armored vehicles, 380 vehicles, and special equipment has been deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh along the line of contact and along the Lachin corridor. The Lachin corridor (5 km wide), which ensures the connection between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, but will not touch the city of Shusha, is under the control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

A joint Russian-Turkish Monitoring Center has been set up to increase the effectiveness of monitoring the parties' compliance with the agreements.

According to the statement, the occupied part of Aghdam city and Aghdam region was liberated on November 20, Kalbajar region on November 25, and Lachin region on December 1.

Azerbaijan managed to liberate these regions without any losses.

By the decrees signed by President Ilham Aliyev after the end of the war, the day of the beginning of the Patriotic War - September 27 - was established as the Day of Remembrance, and the day of the liberation of Shusha - November 8 - as Victory Day.

On December 10, 2020, the Victory Parade dedicated to the Victory in the Patriotic War was held in Baku.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in the parade.

The parade featured more than 3,000 personnel, about 150 military hardware, including state-of-the-art military equipment, missiles and artillery systems, air defense systems, as well as warships and boats. The parade also featured part of the military booty seized by the Azerbaijani Army from the destroyed enemy during the Patriotic War, including modern military equipment, missile and artillery installations, air defense systems, as well as warships and boats.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev addressed the parade.

The head of state said that day was a historic day: “Today is a historic day. Victory Parade is being held in Freedom Square today. I am very glad that the President of the Republic of Turkey, my dear brother Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has accepted my invitation to participate in this parade. At the same time, a large delegation from Turkey, Turkish soldiers and officers are present. It once again demonstrates our unity, friendship and brotherhood”.

The President stated that Azerbaijan had defeated Armenia in 44 days and put an end to the occupation. “Azerbaijan won a brilliant victory in 44 days, defeated Armenia and ended the occupation. Every day of these 44 days is our glorious history. Every day the Azerbaijani Army was advancing, every day new cities, villages, settlements and heights were liberated,” - said the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
The President of Azerbaijan said that at the end of the 44-day war, Armenia surrendered, raised a white flag, knelt down, received its deserved punishment and asked for help: “We have broken through the fortifications built by Armenia for almost 30 years. These fortifications were built in such a way that Azerbaijan could not pass through, our soldiers could not pass through. At the same time, the geographical relief of Nagorno-Karabakh was more favorable for the Armenian side. In just 44 days, the Armenian army was destroyed, military equipment was destroyed, manpower was destroyed, and Azerbaijan showed its strength and power”.

The head of state recalled that many parades were held in Freedom Square: “Many parades were held in the square. But this parade has a special significance. This is the Victory Parade. In one of the parades, I said that in 2016 the flag will be raised at the height of Lalatapa. I said that the day will come when the Azerbaijani flag raised in the occupied territories will be brought to Freedom Square. Today has come. We, the people of Azerbaijan, are the witnesses of this historic day. From now on, we will only move forward. I would like to end my speech with a famous saying. Everyone knows that the Armenian leadership said a year ago that "Karabakh is Armenia and the point." And I said that Karabakh is Azerbaijan! Today, the whole world sees that Karabakh is Azerbaijan! Karabakh is ours! Karabakh is Azerbaijan! Love to the Azerbaijani Army! Long live Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship and brotherhood! Long live the Azerbaijani soldier”.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also addressed the parade.

Erdogan congratulated the personnel of the Azerbaijani Army, which reunited Karabakh with the Motherland after thirty years of longing, and said that he kissed the hands of the mothers who sent them to the front with prayers.

Just as the carnations laid on the graves of the martyrs on 20 January remind us of independence, the Khari-Bulbul flower growing in the Nagorno-Karabakh region has become a symbol of freedom of the Azerbaijani lands today. The biggest contribution to this success achieved by Azerbaijan in both the military and diplomatic spheres was undoubtedly made by my dear brother, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev. At the same time, my brother Ilham Aliyev made the dream bequeathed to him by the late Heydar Aliyev. Taking this opportunity, I want to pay tribute to the memory of the founder of strong Azerbaijan, national leader Heydar Aliyev. Inshallah, under the leadership of my brother Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan will write many more heroic pages”, - said Erdogan.

After the speeches of the presidents, the Victory Parade began.

The personnel of the Armed Forces marched to the rostrum under the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Victory Flag of the 44-Day Patriotic War inscribed in golden letters in our glorious military history. Following the state flag and the Victory flag, the flags of the Azerbaijani Army were brought to Freedom Square.

A group of battle flag bearers brought the battle flags of the military units, which played an exceptional role in achieving the Great Victory, to Freedom Square.
Then the personnel of the Armed Forces passed in front of the rostrum.
