Council of Government Support for Non-Governmental Organizations allocates 1 200 000 AZN for funding NGO projects

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayevâ€“APA. Council of Government Support for Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of Azerbaijan finalized the NGO Support Contest -2008 on Thursday. Azay Guliyev, Chairman of the Council of Government Support for Non-Governmental Organizations under the President said 367 projects had been submitted to the contest announced in 15 prior directions. â€œ290 projects were submitted by Baku-based NGOs and 71 projects by the regional organizations. NGO financial support fund amounts totally 1 200 000 AZNâ€.
Guliyev said projects of 24 organizations were put out from the expertise because they didnâ€™t meet the Councilâ€™s regulations. â€œProjects of 337 NGOs were submitted to the expertise. Each of them was evaluated by the three experts and finally it was decided to finance 191 projectsâ€.
Chief of the Public Policy Department of the Presidentâ€™s Office Ali Hasanov said NGO development in Azerbaijan passed three stages. He said earlier government and NGO saw each other as a rival, then it turned into mutual doubts and now both parts work as the partners for the development of the society. â€œSome NGOs acted like more Catholic than Pope. However today allocated resources must be accepted not like the present, but must be spent for the development of the societyâ€.
