Anne Derse: â€œUS has put forward proposals on the development of democracy in Azerbaijanâ€

She said that the US had expressed its support for democracy and Human Rights in Azerbaijan and put forward proposals in connection with the processes.
â€œWe noted once more that the most active partners of the US are the countries, where democracy has developedâ€, the Ambassador said.
The Ambassador said that Azerbaijan had chosen the way of integration and development and the US supported this way.
The diplomat especially underlined the issue on the freedom of media.
â€œDemocracy is impossible without free media. Conditions should be created for free activity of journalists. They should not be arrested for their writings and libel,â€ she said.
Touching on the elections Anne Derse said free and fair election did not only mean voting and counting of votes.
â€œFirst of all atmosphere should be created so that the citizens can make independent choice. The candidates should have free access to media and people should have the right to freedom of assemblyâ€, she said.
