European Court of Human Rights grants Alikram Hummatov’s appeal against Azerbaijani government

APA’s Europe bureau reports that the court passed the decision on the appeal of Alikram Humbatov, who introduced himself as president of “Talish-Mughan Republic”.European Court of Human Rights says that Article 3 (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment), Article 13 (right to an effective remedy) and paragraph 1 of Article 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights were violated.
According to the court’s decision, Azerbaijani government should pay €12,000 for non-pecuniary damage and €2090 for additional expenses within three months after the court decision.
Alikram Hummatov claimed that Article 3 (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment), Article 13 (right to an effective remedy) and paragraph 1 of Article 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights were violated, when he was in prison in Azerbaijan.
European Court of Human Rights granted the appeal.
Alikram Hummatov was arrested after he declared separatist “Talish-Mughan Republic” in 1993. He was pardoned by president’s decree in 2005 and left the country after he was deprived of citizenship rights. Alikram Hummatov lives in The Hague, the Netherlands. /APA/
