Arif Hajili: â€œIsa Gambar has more chance than others to be oppositionâ€™s single candidateâ€

If the pretenders compromise with each other, of course, this process will pass without problem. We can understand political leaders. Each of them has own team and is a leader of political partyâ€, member of the Public Chamber (PC), head of Musavat Partyâ€™s office Arif Hajili told APA.

He said that the opposition couldnâ€™t determine its candidate in previous elections: â€œIf you remember, during the presidential elections in 2003, all pretenders participated in the election campaign directly or indirectly protecting the other candidate. However, the main candidate was known to the both political forces and public. The electorate recognized Isa Gambar as the oppositionâ€™s main candidate and voted for him. We think that if even Isa Gambar is not a single candidate from the opposition, he will be the oppositionâ€™s main candidate again.â€ Mentioning the nomination of single candidate from the Public Chamber by voting or the other method, Hajili said that he wouldnâ€™t give details. â€œIn general, I consider that Isa Gambar has more chances than others to be a single candidate from the oppositionâ€.

APFP deputy chairman Fuad Gahramanli answered the APAâ€™s question â€œhow the PC should determine its single candidateâ€ and commented on Hajiliâ€™s statement. Firstly, he recalled the Chamberâ€™s decision on selection of single candidate: â€œAccording to this decision, the discussions on nomination of single candidate have been suspended because discussing the issue of single candidate means bringing it to agenda. It is not time yet for this issue and therefore we donâ€™t need discussing its detailsâ€.

Gahramanliâ€™s commented on Hajiliâ€™s statement that Isa Gambar has more chances to become a single candidate from opposition and he is a leader of the democratic camp in Azerbaijan after Elchibey: â€œWe are a part of this process. So, as APFP, we fulfill the Public Chamberâ€™s decision on single candidate. We think that our allies also share this position. Regarding the places of different parties in the opposition camp and the identification of hierarchy, this is the last and unnecessary issue, because we have other goals. The society also doesnâ€™t want it. If everyone deals with the identification of hierarchy basing on personal attitude and sympathy, this wonâ€™t have positive effect on our common goalsâ€.
