88 years pass from establishment of Azerbaijani parliament

Alimardan bey Topchubashov was the chief of the parliament, Hasan bey Agayev his deputy and Mehdi bey Hajinski secretary general. Though there were Russian and Armenian representatives, but they did not take part in the first sitting of the parliament. The law adopted by Baku Russian National Council states that Azerbaijan betrayed Unique and Indivisible Russia idea. Under the pressure of Russian population living in Azerbaijan Russia National Council had to adopt the decision to take part in the parliament after a month. Though the parliament functioned for 17 months; it could prove that Azerbaijan nation is able to establish national state, Republic. Within that period the parliament adopted the laws about Azerbaijani citizenship, Baku State University, establishment of National bank and announced competition to prepare symbols of Azerbaijani State â€“ national anthem, flag, and state emblem. The parliament announced Azerbaijani language to be state language, and adopted special law about it. Azerbaijan got its independence again in 1992 and new parliament was established. At present, working groups has been formed to cooperate with over 70 legislation bodies. Parliament became the active participant of seven international organizations. Azerbaijani Parliament is the member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation Parliamentary Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE states, Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, Parliamentary Assembly of Islamic Conference Organization and some other organizations. /APA/
