Azerbaijani parliamentarians comment on current issues
Gular Ahmadova, Tahir Rzayev and Fazil Mustafa spoke about the five-year-old girl, who was beaten to death by her parents in Baku. They offered to give stricter punishment to the perpetrators.
MP Fazil Mustafa protested against the modernization of Russia’s Gabala radar in Azerbaijan.
“I do not understand how a military base in the territory of Azerbaijan can be modernized without Azerbaijan’s consent and awareness. What does the modernization of Gabala radar mean?†he said.
The parliamentarian underlined the importance of parliament’s control over the law-enforcement bodies.
MP Faraj Guliyev said it is not right to use the name of Nagorno Karabakh while using Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict in the official statements and correspondences.
MP Malahat Ibrahimgizi offered to build a museum or erect a monument to Ahmad Javad, the author of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan. Malahat Ibrahimgizi underlined that Shamkir residents offered to perpetuate the poet’s memory.
MP Elmira Akhundova offered to establish a special parliament channel, or to allocate several hours on Culture channel to cover the parliament’s activity.
Zahid Oruj said Azerbaijan hoped for some results in the Sochi meeting between the presidents: “Despite no results were achieved in the previous meetings. It has symbolic mean that the President joined the opening ceremony of the Defense Industry Ministry’s enterprises yesterday. We know that these negotiations can also be without result. I propose Azerbaijan to refuse negotiations with Armenia and to launch dialogue with Russia, which has played important role since the beginning of the conflictâ€.
MP Siyavush Novruzov proposed to erect common genocide monument. He also mentioned the issue of Gabala radar station and said that this station is in the balance of Azerbaijan and was leased. The leasing term expires in a year and any agreement on this station to be reached in this period should be approved by the parliament, said the lawmaker. Siyavush Novruzov denied some media repots about the deploying troops in Baku. “This is falsehood. Everyone, who breaks the law, will be invited to the disciplinaryâ€.
Vice Speaker of the parliament, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to OSCE PA Bahar Muradova informed the lawmakers about the last plenary session of the OSCE PA, where Austrian parliament’s resolution on Nagorno Karabakh conflict was adopted. Bahar Muradova said they proposed to replace the head of OSCE/ODIHR.
Reacting to the vice speaker’s report, Speaker Ogtay Asadov criticized the activity of OSCE/ODIHR head. “Changing the authorities of this organization will not change its essence. I asked the institution authorities when they visited Azerbaijan on the eve of the elections whether they bring ready-made recipe or conduct normal observation. They told me that they have no ready-made recipe. But we see that OSCE/ODIHR always come with ready recipe. They leave PACE and OSCE PA resolutions aside, negotiate for 10-12 hours and leave expressing their ideas. Therefore changing the authorities will not change its essenceâ€.
