Britain’s public broadcaster BBC has announced plans to close two television channels and a radio station and cut jobs to save £500 million over the next two years, APA reports.
BBC Scotland, BBC Three and BBC Radio 4 Extra will cease broadcasting under the plan. Some programmes are expected to move to the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds digital platforms.
Around 100 jobs will reportedly be cut at BBC News, with a total of 1,800–2,000 positions expected to be eliminated across the corporation.
BBC Director-General Matt Brittin said rising costs had made difficult decisions necessary.
The services scheduled for closure are expected to continue broadcasting until spring 2027.
