Azerbaijani President chairs meeting

Making a keynote speech at the meeting Ilham Aliyev underlined that 2010 had been declared the â€œYear of Ecologyâ€, much attention was paid to the solution of the environmental problems, concrete program adopted for that purpose.

The head of state said the program covered various spheres, mechanisms, time and financial sources of the measures.

Ilham Aliyev said despite the global economic crisis, Azerbaijan had gained socio-economic achievements, economic achievements had been strengthened and noted that much attention should be paid to the environmental problems. President spoke about the work done and future tasks for clearing oil-contaminated territories, utilization of drinkable water, sewage water and waste products.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseynguli Bagirov, Baku mayor Hajibala Abutalibov and president of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic Rovnag Abdullayev informed President about the projects on the solution of the environmental problems.

The head of state emphasized the close participation of the population in planting of more than three million trees in Baku and Absheron peninsula.

The president it was great contribution to the solution of sewerage problem of the capital city to put Hovsan Aeration Station into operation and urged for elaboration of project for recovery of sewer waters. The head of state said construction of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline would be completed soon, which would improve drinking water supply of Baku and made recommendations for increasing of module installations to improve composition of drinking waters in the regions and to extend areas covered by this project. The president mentioned the measures taken for cleaning of waters in Baku Bay and said it was possible to use international experience to use Caspian waters for drinking water supply and melioration.

The head of state expressed his ideas about the projects on prevention of air pollution, protection of forests, drainage of some lakes in Absheron peninsula and turning some of them into recreation centers, restoration of energy sources and other issues and urged to elaborate comprehensive projects and proposals on the all subjects discussed at the meeting.
