Lawmaker demands to investigate 15-year old girlâ€™s suicide

â€œWho will be punished for this incident? Why they donâ€™t care about that? Why reasons of the incident widely covered by media are not investigated? Earlier local authorities were dismissed for such incidents? It is meaningless to adopt a law for prevention of violence against women while reasons of such incidents are not investigatedâ€.

Aslanova said early marriages among the women frequently occurred in the southern part of Azerbaijan. â€œI ask Sheikh, why no measures are taken concerning these mullahs, who are realizing Shariah rules. Those mullahs have to be punished that to stop their activityâ€.

Deputy Prosecutor General Namig Asgarov answered the lawmakerâ€™s question. â€œThose who take responsibility are punished. There was a tragedy in Guba. That girl committed suicide not for marriage. She wrote a dying letter and explained reason of her action. No we are investigating this factâ€.

The suicide was committed at about 08.05 on November 28 in Susay village of Guba region. Banovsha Farid Farzaliyeva, 15 was found by her parents hanged in the garret of their farm. The investigators said 15-year old girl hanged herself because her parents forced her to marry loveless.
