Azerbaijani parliament repasses Constitutional law on human rights commissioner (ombudsman)

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev – APA. Azerbaijani parliament has today repassed the amendment made to the Constitutional law on human rights commissioner (ombudsman) on March 18, 2009, APA reports. According to chairman of the parliament’s committee on legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynov, the proposed document has been repassed as it is the constitutional law. The amendment to the above-mentioned constitutional law is connected with the ombudsman’s tenure. According to the previous law, one and the same person could not elected to the post of Human Rights Commissioner more than once. According to the amendments made to article 4.2 of the constitutional law, one and the same person can not be elected to this post more than twice. According to the amendment made to article 4.3, the human rights commissioner continues holding the post, if the new ombudsman is not elected on the day when his (her) tenure expires. In this case, his (her) tenure is considered expired the day when the new ombudsman is elected.
